Preparing You for Your Disability Claim Appeal

If you are appealing a Social Security disability (SSD) claim that has been denied, you may be nervous about what will happen at your hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ). Although these hearings are relatively informal, it is still important to be prepared for them.

I am Don Anderson, a Clearwater disability hearings attorney with more than 35 years of legal experience. If you are looking for an attorney who will take the time to make sure you are prepared for your hearing, contact my office today to schedule a free consultation.

Getting Important Work Done While Your Hearing Is Pending

In our region, wait times for disability hearings before the Social Security Administration (SSA) average about 12 to 14 months from the date you appeal your initial determination of benefits. While you are waiting for your hearing, I will take important steps like the following:

  • Bring your medical records up to date: My office will communicate with your doctors to make sure your medical condition is fully documented. I will also prepare a memo summarizing the key points in your medical records if the SSA requests one.
  • Maintain communication about the status of your case: I will always keep you informed of any developments that may affect your case. I am also dedicated to staying informed about any chances to your medical condition or work status.
  • Explain the questions you are likely to be asked: While I will do most of the talking at your hearing, you are also likely to be asked some questions directly. I will prepare you for this by explaining what types of information the ALJ will be looking for.

I am dedicated to making sure you are fully prepared for your hearing. As a local Clearwater-area attorney, I am able to provide hands-on attention to all of my clients. To discuss what I can do to help you prepare for your disability hearing, contact me today.
